Letter from our Executive Director: March 2026

A note of gratitude and reflection

Dear Friends,

As we step into March, we are reminded that homelessness is a housing problem that affects humans — our neighbors, our community members, and families God calls us to love. With the recent shift in weather, many of our brothers and sisters living on the streets experience a moment of relief, a small mercy in a long journey.

This month, our hearts are full of gratitude for the incredible support shown during Give BIG Green Bay. In just 24 hours, you helped raise $102,132 through 427 donors — a powerful testimony of compassion in action.

Thank you for being a reflection of God’s grace in the lives of families seeking stability and hope.

As the seasons shift, so does the experience of our unhoused neighbors. Warmer days bring comfort, but the underlying challenges remain. Your generosity ensures that families in crisis do not face these challenges alone. Every gift helps transform fear into safety and instability into a path toward a new beginning.

What’s Happening at Freedom House

- 15 Families are receiving safe shelter in a moment of crisis.
- 2 Families have moved out this year and 2 more are planning to move out in the next 30 days.
- Parents are pursuing stability through Success Coaching, employment support, and life-skills programming.
- Children are experiencing structure, safety, and encouragement.
- Our team continues advocating for long-term housing solutions.

Understanding Our Housing Crisis

Our city faces a housing deficit and a shortage of available housing vouchers. This shortage creates long waits, instability, and limited pathways for families ready to move into permanent housing. We are creatively addressing this problem, through our Barrier Removal Fund and donations to bridge that gap as we advocate for sustainable solutions.

How You Can Help This Month

Pray for our city — especially for the housing needs of families affected by scarcity and rising costs.

‘Seek the peace and prosperity of the city… Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.’ - Jeremiah 29:7

Donate to the Help for The Homeless Hygiene Drive at local businesses throughout the greater Green Bay area.

Volunteer with us or someone that supports families. When families succeed, Green Bay will too!

Thank you for walking alongside Freedom House and the families we serve. Your generosity makes shelter, stability, and hope possible.

With gratitude and hope,

Jennifer Schmohe
