Legacy Giving: Frequently Asked Questions

How do I include Freedom House Ministries in my will or estate?

There are several common approaches to incorporate charitable giving into your estate plan:

  1. Equal Beneficiary Method: Treat Freedom House Ministries as an additional beneficiary, dividing your estate equally among your heirs and chosen charities.
  2. Estate Tithing: Allocate a percentage of your estate to Freedom House Ministries, with the remaining percentage distributed among your heirs.
  3. Inheritance Cap: Set a fixed inheritance amount for your heirs, designating any excess to Freedom House Ministries.
  4. Will Amendment: Add a codicil to your existing will to include Freedom House Ministries. This document should be properly dated, signed, and witnessed.
How do online wills work?

Many digital platforms offer a streamlined will-creation process:

  1. Complete a questionnaire about your wishes and assets.
  2. Review your responses for accuracy.
  3. Receive and finalize your documents, following the instructions provided for signatures and storage.
Do I need a lawyer to make a will?

While not legally required, consulting an attorney is advisable in certain situations, such as:

  • Substantial asset ownership
  • Special needs dependents
  • Complex family situations
  • Potential will contest
  • Business ownership
  • International citizenship issues
Considering an online will? Here are four key advantages that attract many people:
  1. Cost-Effective: Creating a will can be expensive, especially when involving legal professionals. While a lawyer might charge $500 or more for a basic will (with costs escalating for complex estates), most online options are available for under $70.
  2. Convenient: Many online platforms offer user-friendly questionnaires that can be completed in approximately 30 minutes. This contrasts with the traditional method, which often requires multiple in-person meetings with an attorney to gather information and finalize documents.
  3. Reliable: Self-prepared digital legal documents are now widely recognized by courts and government bodies across all states. Many leading online will services were developed by legal professionals, ensuring high-quality, legally sound, and state-specific documents.
  4. Confidential: For those uncomfortable sharing personal financial and family details face-to-face, online services offer a more discreet alternative. While lawyers are bound by confidentiality, the anonymity of digital forms appeals to many who prefer to keep their personal information private.

These factors make online wills an attractive option for many individuals seeking a straightforward, affordable, and private way to create their last will and testament.
