Dear Friends,

As I reflect on this season at Freedom House Ministries, I am reminded again of a simple truth: God is good. His timing is perfect. Time and time again, He provides exactly what we need — often in ways we could not have anticipated, and always at just the right moment.

Lately, I have found myself especially grateful for the team that surrounds this work. The staff of Freedom House is not here by accident. Each person brings a servant’s heart, a spirit of discernment, and a deep commitment to advocacy for the families we serve. This is not easy work. It requires patience, wisdom, and the ability to walk closely with people through some of the most uncertain and vulnerable seasons of their lives. And yet, our team shows up — steadfast, compassionate, and grounded in purpose.

In this month’s newsletter, you will read a reflection from one of our staff members about helping a resident move into her new apartment. What might seem like a simple transition became a powerful reminder of why this work matters. It stirred something deeper in him. A renewed belief in the mission we carry forward together. I see that same conviction across our entire team. It is a quiet but steady faith that what we are doing matters, and that each step forward for a family is worth the effort it takes to get there.

During the month of April, through the strength of our housing navigator initiative and the relationships we have been building with landlords, we have said farewell to five families as they transitioned into stable housing. Each of these transitions tells a story of perseverance. Some were especially difficult, shaped by the realities of a challenging financial landscape, limited housing availability, and the complexities of larger family sizes. And yet, even in the midst of those challenges, doors opened. Homes were found. New chapters began.

These moments are not just outcomes. They are evidence of provision. They remind us that even when the path is uncertain, we are not walking it alone.

As we celebrate these milestones, I am equally mindful of the many hands that make this work possible. April marked Volunteer Appreciation Week, and it is only fitting that we pause to recognize those who come alongside us in such meaningful ways. Our volunteers help carry the weight of this mission in various ways and much of this would not be possible without them.

We look forward to honoring them at our Volunteer Breakfast on Saturday, May 16th at Bay City Baptist Church. It will be a time to say thank you, to acknowledge that this work is not done alone, but in community. If you haven’t yet registered, feel free to reach out to Julio Zuniga, julioz@freedomhousegb.org so you can join us for ministry updates and a delicious breakfast.

To our staff, volunteers, and all who support Freedom House Ministries — thank you. Your belief in this mission, and in the families we serve, continues to make all the difference.

With gratitude and hope,

Jennifer Schmohe
