Freedom House Ministries receives $77,500 grant for family transformations

Stand Together Foundation supports forward movement, barrier removal

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Freedom House Ministries, a non-profit organization providing comprehensive care to families experiencing homelessness and transitioning to stable housing, has been awarded a $77,500 grant from the Stand Together Foundation, a fund of the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation, in partnership with Community Foundation fundholders. This funding will support intensive case management and barrier removal assistance for families living at The Bridge, the organization’s nine-unit apartment complex.

Stand Together Foundation funds measurable strategies to move people from the brink of poverty to a place of economic stability and self-sufficiency.

The grant will primarily fund a case manager/workforce navigator position at The Bridge, who will work one-on-one with families to address barriers to lasting self-sufficiency. Additionally, funds will be allocated for direct assistance to help families overcome specific challenges that often prevent them from moving forward, such as transportation costs, childcare expenses, or fees associated with employment certification.

“This grant from the Stand Together Foundation will significantly enhance our ability to support families beyond their initial housing needs,” said Jennifer Schmohe, Executive Director of Freedom House. “Many families face ongoing challenges even after securing housing, from employment and transportation barriers to childcare needs and rebuilding their credit. This funding enables us to provide dedicated case management and barrier removal to help families overcome obstacles and achieve lasting stability.”

Freedom House empowers families who have successfully transitioned through homelessness and prepared for independent living at The Bridge, its nine-unit apartment complex. Having already benefited from comprehensive shelter services including intensive case management, educational programming, and workforce coaching, these families have demonstrated their commitment to rebuilding their lives. Through continued support at The Bridge, families maintain their momentum toward lasting stability while developing the skills and resources needed for complete independence.

“This initiative aligns with our community’s shared goal of preventing and ending homelessness, as outlined in the Greater Green Bay Blueprint,” said Kari Olsen, Director of Grants and Scholarship Programming at the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation. “By providing families with critical support, Freedom House Ministries is helping bring this vision to life — fostering long-term stability and working collaboratively to create lasting housing solutions.”

This initiative represents a unique collaboration between Freedom House and local agencies and shelter providers, demonstrating how like-minded organizations can work together to create lasting change in our community.
