Helen’s family continues her legacy by serving a dinner meal at Freedom House.
Written by Louanne, Helen’s daughter
We typically celebrate our mom’s birthday by going out for dinner. This year we decided to change that and serve dinner for others. It just so happened that her birthday was available to serve dinner at Freedom House.
Our mom (Helen) passed away in 2019, just short of her 93rd birthday – full of life and serving others until her final days. She loved being surrounded by her large family and all the food and fun that usually came with it. There were never too many kids (especially babies) for her. Her pantry was full of treats and her heart was full of love for anyone who stopped by.
She and our dad raised a family of nine kids and were blessed with 28 grandkids and 57 great-grandkids. Her love and support of ‘family’ extended to the community also. The mission of Freedom House was one that she supported and was thrilled when she could shop for items on the organization’s wish list.
The meal served was more than just food - it was a chance for us to join several other families for a part of their day. Thank you Freedom House for the opportunity!
