The extraordinary drive to have a home before school starts in August
Stacy wakes up each day to continue building the foundation for her family. The sun will rise and set no matter how much progress she makes. It’s her drive and determination that can change their future.
Stacy’s family came to Freedom House Ministries after her landlord sold the apartment building they lived in. She was issued a 28-day notice to leave. It didn’t make it easier to support a family with two teenage children while working part-time.
It worked for a while, but the lack of a safety net didn’t help. Stacy tried to find housing, but the pressure mounted faster than she could keep up. With no other options, they became homeless for the first time in their lives. You were there for Stacy and her children when they needed safety, resources and hope.
Stacy is now laying the foundation for financial independence while healing from past trauma. She believes in helping her kids build resiliency in this unwelcome phase of life. Knowing that one job was not enough to support her family’s needs sustainably, she is now working three jobs. The goal is to secure full-time employment with insurance benefits and a retirement plan.
Each day after the physical demands of her two cleaning jobs, Stacy enjoys a brief dinner with her two teenagers. It’s then off to work a delivery service job until late into the evening. She is proving that determination is the bedrock for change.
Freedom House Success Coach, Ashley Brick, shares proudly about the work ethic that Stacy has. “Stacy’s strength is not found in having an easy path. It is found in her willingness to keep trying and staying motivated towards her goals,” Brick said. “She wakes up every day, stands on her own and persists through the challenges.”
Stacy has the physical grit it takes to work three jobs, parent two teenagers, and pursue financial stability. She works hard to develop positivity in her life by attending weekly counseling sessions. Because of a history of abuse, she is relearning the patterns of thinking and feeling that kept her caged and unable for so many years. She knows that she can be a capable caregiver when she prioritizes her own health. Over time, Stacy has learned how to let go of past experiences and the mental overload that paralyzed her.
She attributes her determination to faith. “Believing God has a beautiful plan for me and my children is what motivates and inspires me to push myself,” she said. “My faith will never let me fear the unknown.”
Today, Stacy sets her focus ahead with the goal of being housed by the upcoming school year. She is doing what she can to provide stability for her children and move towards a bright future.
